22 Batches of New England IPA? Don't mind if I do...

Over the course of one year I will be brewing 22 batches of the same style beer, learning its intricacies, making mistakes, and, if I'm lucky, getting to drink some of it at the end.

Batch 3

Jan 17, 2017
Technically Otto did the brewing on this one as I had beer class that day.
0.1oz Mosaic   l   Recipe 60m   l   What He Did 60m
0.2oz Citra   l   Recipe 15m   l   What He Did 45m
0.1oz Citra   l   Recipe 5m   l   What He Did 5m
0.1oz Mosaic   l   Recipe 5m   l   What He Did 5m

Half the yeast left over from bach 2 was used for bach 3 (sanitized mason jar in the fridge).  They refrigerated yeast was pulled 2 hours before being put in the fermenter.
Took 40 minutes to chill.
OG is 1.034

Dry Hop Day!
0.2oz Mosaic   l   What I Did 0.2oz
0.2oz Citra   l   What I Did 0.2oz
Noticed a crack in the screw cap of the fermenter...could be an issue...

1oz priming sugar.  FG was 1.1.
Clear taste difference from pre bottle batch 2, something is possibly off here.

0.1oz Mosaic   l   Recipe 5m   l   What I Did 5m
SUCCESS!

Tasted before putting in the fermenter ,tasted bitter and sweet.  Otto said it tasted spicy and burned in the throat a bit.

No possible contamination issues noted.

Dry Hop Day!
0.2oz Mosaic   l   What I Did 0.2oz
0.2oz Citra   l   What I Did 0.2oz
Did it to recipe this time ;)

Bottling with 1oz priming sugar.  FG was about 1.05.  No notable contamination issues however the tube touched the dishwasher and the last 3 bottles that were done after that were marked to see if they taste any different.  Tasted good prior to bottling.

DRINKING FEB 20!

Batch 1

Dec 3, 2016
I have decided to go with a New England Style IPA.
The instructions I used were a bit oddly worded so I kinda just made up parts based on my previous experience brewing only 3 other beers in my life.  I drank a bit too much during the boil and messed up the drop times for the hops too, but im not too worried about that part.
0.1oz Mosaic   l   Recipe 60m   l   What I Did 60m
0.2oz Citra   l   Recipe 15m   l   What I Did 30m
0.1oz Citra   l   Recipe 5m   l   What I Did 17m
0.1oz Mosaic   l   Recipe 5m   l   What I Did 5m
After I messed up the recipe a bit I'm anxious to see how it will turn out.

OG was 1.05
Drank some before it went into the fermenter, pretty happy with it so far.

Dry Hop Day!
OK I totally fucked this up.  I thought the recipe called for a full OZ of both Mosaic and Citra Hops, it called for 0.2oz.  Turns out I was looking at the 5 gallon recipe and not the 1 gallon.
Because I though I needed 1 oz each this is what happened:
0.2oz Mosaic   l   What I Did 0.8oz
0.2oz Citra   l   What I Did 0.6oz

As a result I had a bitch of a time fitting that bag in the bottle but I eventually got it in.
Now we wait!

Thought I could pull out that dry hop bag, wasn't happening. I resubmverged it then stuck the entire fermenter in the fridge for 3.25 hours to help everything settle a bit.

I primed with 1oz by weight of corn sugar for bottling.
FG was about 1.0 (recipie called for around 1.014 so I think thats ok)

Bottling went well due to Otto's advanced syphoning skills.

Tasting Day! Well kinda.
I tasted this about a week early but I loved it.

Later Tastings
I really really like it.  Its complex but not too complex, has some fruit flavors but mostly hop up front.  The color was fantastic when it was fresh then dropped off to a dull color after about 1 month.

OK LETS DO IT AGAIN!  ON TO BATCH 2!
